A local institution, Silvano is one of the oldest, best-loved gelaterias in Turin. It is situated on Via Nizza, well out of the city centre, between the Spezia and Carducci metro stops. This is the place to come for a cone to take away or, as was the common custom a few years ago, sit down at one of the tables and enjoy an ice cream in a bowl. All products are made with farm milk and organic eggs and the range also includes ice cakes and Sicilian granitas.
The milk and gluten-free sorbets come in flavours such as strawberry, berry fruit, Sicilian citrus, lemon and mango, while the house classics are Delizia della Dama (served at the table) with melted chocolate, fiordilatte ice cream, hot coffee, cream and crumbled meringue, gianduja, rice cream, Gran Torino, made with gianduja, chopped hazelnut, and plain chocolate flakes, and Mocaccino, a soft coffee cream, also with chocolate flake. Seasonal specialities are ice cream with marrons glacés (which also feature in the so-called meringue nests) and panettone. Always open.
