Agrigelateria SanPè di Poirino was established by Alfonso, Antonietta and Giovanni in 2001. Born of a brainwave – the idea of combining agricultural production with artisanal ice cream – it was a real innovation at the time. The result is simple, wholesome products made with very few ingredients: high-quality fresh milk from farm-raised cattle and seasonal fruit from the orchard.
The ice cream is produced in Poirino, in a splendid setting among cornfields and a green space with farm animals and a children’s playground. Flavours include fiordilatte, yoghurt, Langa hazelnuts, Bronte pistachios, Pancalieri peppermint and Alba nougat. For those who suffer from intolerances, there’s a wide variety of lactose-free fruit flavours, as well as delicious plain chocolate.
In recent years, Alfonso and Antonietta’s daughter Lucia has introduced iced cakes with bases of cornmeal biscuits or puffed rice and filled with ice cream and fresh fruit. Specialities include Ceresita, Ciculata and a new gluten-free raspberry cheesecake.
SanPè recently opened a shop at the seaside, in Ceriale in the province of Savona. It’s run by Alfonso and Antonietta’s son Davide and one of its new flavours, Bacio di Ceriale, has already won many admirers.
