The history of the Birrificio Torino is very much the history of the rebirth of interest for beer in Turin. Following the closure of the old historical breweries in the 1950s and 1960s, it opened the city’s first brewpub in 2001. The place stood out for the quality of its impeccably cooked dishes and perfect beer-food pairings. The pub is a characteristic landmark in the Regio Parco neighbourhood, which after notable redevelopment is increasingly at the heart of Turin’s night life. Production is almost entirely earmarked for internal consumption. Beers are tapped directly from 1000-litre tanks below the distribution points. The brewery’s earliest labels such as Clara, a Helles, and Originale, a Hellesbock, were low-fermentation, but now it also specialises in high-fermentation beers such as Bela Rosin, a British bitter ale, Oltredora, a double IPA, Rufus, an Irish red ale, Masca, a pump-tapped stout, and Drola, a spicy white IPA), not to mention seasonal drinks such as the excellent Christmas beers made with honey and chestnuts.
