The beer of the Turin hills … courtesy of a brewpub that came into being in Chieri in 2003 and moved to Montaldo Torinese, a few kilometres away, in 2009. This building houses the production facilities and the shop (open from Monday-Friday 8.30am-5.00pm), but Grado Plato beers may be found nearby in a number of partner establishments, listed on the website. Its eleven typologies include Sveva, a low-alcohol lager and Spoon River, a more complex full-bodied amber barley malt with sensations of caramel and a citrusy finish. These two recipes, which have accompanied the brewery from its very beginnings, have since been joined by others, the fruit of the brewmaster’s imagination, such as Strada San Felice, an alcoholic amber ale made with Strada San Felice, made with chestnuts from the Val Mongia (Cuneo). A favourite with punters is Melissa, a honey beer with pleasant floral aromas. Since 2005, Grado Plato has owned a farm where it grows the barley, which is malted and use in most of the beers.
