Roberto Crosio is one of a number of young vine-dressers in the Canavese district north of Turin and his small cellar is to be found on the road between Caluso and Candia. His lovely vines, which he grows with the integrated management system, stretch across an area not far from Lake Candia. Let yourself be guided by the Monica Viola, Roberto’s dynamic partner, and she’ll be only too happy to explain the truly unique characteristics of their wines. Organise a visit and a testing in the cellar – and, if possible, take a walk through the vineyard – enjoying the wines immersed in the stunning landscape. Particularly impressive is the Erbaluce range, from the base label Erbalus to the long-maceration Primavigna, Costa Paradiso, aged in wood casks, to Eva d’Or, a passito. The reds, all excellent, include: Goccia nera, a Canavese DOC made with barbera grapes, Gemini, also a Canavese, made with nebbiolo grapes, and Merlot Viola, which is aged in steel. Last but not least come wonderful metodo classico spumantes: especially noteworthy are Incanto and l’Incanto 80, a great pas dosé aged for 80 months on the lees.
