Green Italy is the brainchild of enthusiast Roberto Revello. It came into being to process hemp, a common crop in this part of the Canavese area, where it has always been cultivated. Rich in omega 3, omega 6 and a number of vitamins, hemp by-products are very important for their sensory and nutritional properties. Every part of the plant can be used and hemp flour goes into a number of foodstuffs such as pasta and biscuits – the local torcetti, for example. Hemp oil may be used in sauces and condiments. Roberto himself makes canapestum, a delicious basil and hemp pesto, and canapella, a chocolate and hemp spread. All this and more – hemp beer, fruit juices, compotes, dried fruits and flowers – are on sale at the farm shop, and there’s also a B & B for guests next door.
