For more than ten years, this gelateria has been active in the heart of Cit Turin, the city’s art nouveau quarter on the edge of Piazza Benefica, where a very popular street market is staged every day. The ice cream here is made not with milk but with rice milk and eggs and traditional sugars are not used either, replaced by fructose, coconut sugar and stevia. The result is a light, easily digestible product, suitable for people with problems of intolerance or who follow specific eating regimes, though Gelato Amico customers are actually lovers of traditional ice cream, too. Flavours range from strawberry, berry fruits and almond to plain chocolate, gianduja and fiordilatte, as well as pear, pistachio, walnut, water melon and lemon and sage. Also on sale, a vast range of iced cakes, ice cream bars, including hazelnut and plain chocolate, rice flour and corn meal biscuits, bars of single-origin chocolate from the Dominican Republic, spreading creams, house-made cornflakes and vegetable butter, and excellent fruit-flavoured ice lollies.
