This shop selling goat’s milk dairy products (and more besides) is on the main road into the centre of Lanzo Torinese. Behind the large windows, the cheese counter displays all the goodies from the business’s dairy farm in the Montebasso district not far from the shop, which doubles as the headquarters. Here at altitudes of 600 and 900 metres of altitude over an area of 50 hectares, Marco Brachet Contol rears fifty or so chamois-coloured goats, whose milk goes into uniquely flavoursome, wholesome cheeses: hence fresh robiola, ricotta, soft, sweetish tomini di Montebasso, blue toma, toma with dried rhubarb root and tomas matured one or three months. Also on sale are homemade goat meat charcuterie as well as products of distinction from other Piedmontese artisans, such as ermes brown rice from the Cascina Oschiena farm in the province of Vercelli, blueberries from the Cascina Blu farm in Ciriè (a Master of Taste), and bottled items such as Cascina Fiume farm in Carmagnola, such as peaches stuffed with amaretti and cacao.
