For almost fifty years Pietro Gaido has been a local benchmark for quality fruit and vegetables. In his shop in the old centre of Rivoli (run by his grandfather back in thr day) you’ll find a range of products that is hard to rival. “Everything that exists, we have it,” says Pietro proudly as he shows off the organic produce from local farmers and farms all over Italy. Among the most unusual are the sbergia, a type of nectarine that only grows near a few towns in Sicily, and the Giarratana onion, which the shop has stocked since time immemorial. The Frutteria’s specialities are mushrooms and truffles: here enthusiasts will find every type in existence, fresh or dried when they are out of season. The variety of exotic fruit from the South of Italy – mango, papaya, lychee and much less – is also impressive. The range is rounded off by a selection of processed foods from reputable farms.
