Stefano Zoccolan has changed his lifestyle over the last 20 years to make it fit in with that of his industrious bees, which he farms with care and attention, and feeds with expertise and passion. In the lush apiaries of the Stupinigi Nature Park he produces fine acacia, dandelion, wild flower, lime and chestnut honey.
In summer, the 400 or so hives move to the meadows in flower of the Alpine valleys at altitudes of 500-2000 metres, where the precious nectars give life to mountain rhododendron and wild flower honeys, both Slow Food Presidia. In winter, the bees are transferred to Liguria to benefit from the milder climate.
The honey is used to make a vast range of natural products such as non-alcoholic propolis spray, wild flower pollen and honey and propolis sweets. Stefano has recently added a new line of products in jars such as Nocciolé (Langhe hazelnut cream and acacia honey) and La Nocciola (Roero hazelnuts with acacia honey). Another novelty is honey beer, brewed in Cavour.
Products are on sale at the AgriFlor markets in Turin, during Flor events and at Panacea shops. They are also available online through the company’s website.
