Verdessenza is one of those shops that look as though they have stepped straight out of the past but manage nonetheless to be incredibly contemporary. In an epoch in which, due to the hectic pace, we tend to attach little value to human relations, people like to come here to chat with Alessandra and Cosimo (the two partners most present in the shop) for advice on their best, most suitable exclusively fairtrade products. The range is the result of short supply chains, selected suppliers and projects with a story to tell. There is a grocery department selling (mostly loose) pasta, rice, biscuits, pulses, wine, a variety of starchy foods and goodies such as praline almonds; an organic fruit and vegetable department; a fish department with both the catch of the day and fish from certified extensive organic farms; and a meat section (free-range chickens and local livestock.
All these goods may be bought by joining the purchasing groups of which the shop has established itself as a reference point with periodic meetings that are part of a calendar of educational events, anti-waste workshops and talks with a nutrionist.
