The story of this family business began in 2001, when Lorenzo Zuccarello, a pastry chef with a passion for chocolate, decided to open a chocolate workshop of his own. Ten years later he moved to the present premises, which are larger and more suitable for a business that has grown fast since, in part thanks to the assistance of sister Valentina, with whom Lorenzo runs it. The shop stocks all sorts of pralines: gianduiotti, filled chocolates and above all cioccolatini della Certosa, the speciality of the house and a typical Collegno delicacy, meringue or rum or hazelnut cream coated with chocolate and presented in wrappers depicted with an image of the Royal Charterhouse, the symbol of the town. Then there’s the confectionery department featuring classic cake, and traditional Piedmontese biscuits, from torcetti to baci di dama (“lady’s kisses”, semi-spherical chocolate-coated shortcrust pastry cookies with chopped almonds or hazelnuts), from brutti ma buoni (“ugly but good”, irregularly shaped cookies) to paste di meliga, cornflour cookies. A popular item is the torta rustica, an all-vegetal “rustic cake” in which animal fats are replaced by cocoa butter and extra virgin olive oil, made of home-toasted Piedmontese hazelnuts.
